THE IMPACT OF WORLD-CLASS MANUFACTURING PRACTICES ON SMALL MANUFACTURERS - by
David K. Johnson

Chapter III - The Proposed Model

A solid supply-chain management foundation and the pillars of Lean Manufacturing and Quality supporting operational performance.

Introduction

This chapter outlines the theory supporting the proposed world-class manufacturing model as well as the theorized relations between supply-chain management, lean manufacturing, and quality. The resulting model is a direct result of descriptive and empirical literature on the topics of supply-chain management, lean manufacturing, and quality. This study seeks to support the theory that each of these categories are mutually supportive and that they each have a positive impact on performance.
