Cause and Effect Diagrams
Cause and effect diagrams, also known as fishbone diagrams, are a practical tool used to identify the causes responsible for a process’s lack of performance. Often used while brainstorming, this tool can help track down the source of a system’s problems.

Continuous Improvement Teams
Continuous improvement teams are one of the most important components to a successful quality management program. Quality improvement techniques are most effective when applied in a team setting. By using teams, multiple perspectives are available about complex problems, which are often unsolvable by a single individual. In a team setting, each of the members brings with them a piece of the puzzle allowing for the puzzle to be put together revealing a clearer picture of the problem.
Successful implementation of continuous improvement teams requires a certain kind of company philosophy and culture. Unfortunately common U.S. management practices often conflict with the company philosophy and culture required for a successful quality management program. Deming’s 14 points outlines the required philosophy and culture needed for continuous improvement.
